Cambodia is the 3rd world rice export country follow by Thai and Vietnam. Cambodia has high potential in agriculture. The government of Cambodia has the vision that want Cambodia to be the first world rice export country by 2015.
Now it is still in debate that Cambodia should improve Organic rice or non-organic rice.
Some organisations propose that Cambodia should produce more organic rice because they forecast it will be better in the short future. Moreover, it is also good to the environment and health for both producers and consumers. Organic rice has also high price in the markets.
Otherwise, some organisations propose that Khmer farmers should increase more yield by using an appropriate amount of chemical fertilizer. The price of non-organic rice is a bit lower than the organic one, but farmers can produce much more yield. It is very good the family economics.
